Description |
McConnell home. Built in 1850, this brick home in colonial style at McConnell Station, near the Cosumnes River out of Elk Grove, was one of the most widely-known of early day Sacramento homes. "It was bought in 1857 by Thomas McConnell, who had made a fortune in a sawmill and store at Georgetown, and he reared his family there. This picture was taken in the 1880s and shows McConnell, with the white beard just behind the fence, and his wife standing beside him. One of his daughters, Mary A. Bostwick, is sitting on the horse at the left and other relatives are about. Mrs. Bostwick, still living in Sacramento, recalls many of the episodes of the gay 19th century in the county."
